What Children Learn From a Home Based Business
By Dede Gruenberg

I have worked from home while raising a family for the last 26 years. I am now in a position to look back and analyze how the presence of my home based business influenced my children during their formative years. I am delighted and amazed at what developing my business from home taught them.

Here are just a few of the things they have learned (in no particular order):

   * Success means giving 110%
   * Goal setting, both short and long term is powerful
   * Failing sometimes is OK, it teaches valuable lessons.
   * Public speaking will not kill you; it is an important skill to master.
   * Leadership skills
   * The power of passionate positive thinking
   * How to be an entrepreneur
   * Stretching outside your comfort zone is tough, but makes you strong
   * Marketing
   * Thinking outside the box
   * There is more job security when you work hard at your own business than when you work for someone else.
   * You need to show up for work everyday.

As I have been blessed to earn many company incentive trips, my children have passports that rival the average adult. They have seen places by the age of 16 that most full grown adults are waiting for retirement to be able to visit.

As high school and college students, they demonstrated leadership skills in everything they did. Whether in sports, clubs, drama, music, church, their community, or their part-time job; they excelled because they always did MORE THAN THEY WERE ASKED! This has carried over beyond college as they have become independent, responsible working young adults.

Is it easy to grow a home based business around your family? Not always. Do things get CRAZY sometimes? Absolutely! But the long-term rewards (as they say) are PRICELESS.
