Web Site Building Guidelines And Why You Have To Have a Website
By Gabe Mars

By using the Internet, you will increase your base of potential clients to a global audience and can also lower your costs of doing business. If you are not online yet, I'm pretty sure that your competitors are. There's no running away from this one, and if you don't jump on the bandwagon, you may be left behind. Then it will be too late to try to beat your competition.

So you decide that you are going to create a Web site for your company. You start looking around, getting some quotes, putting your materials together, and thinking about how great it will be to have all the bells and whistles and make your site sing and dance for your customers. Well, before you go and put a lot of your effort and money into building a Web site or hiring somebody to do it, there are several things that you absolutely must do in order to ensure that your site won't be just your company's online brochure and that you can actually sell products from the site.

Before we go into it, I want to mention how important your preparation process is to generating sales, leads or whatever it is the goal and the main result you expect your website to produce for your business. You should start by brainstorming about your keywords. They will be the first step in promoting your site, and before you even start jotting down notes on your site, you should do some research on your keywords. Check your competition and see what they are using. Check the search engines to see what comes up when people search for your likely keywords. Put your time into doing this right. There is a whole section on keywords and their importance, along with a quick guide to where and how to find hundreds, even thousands, of keywords that relate to your business, using very inexpensive tools and simple techniques.

Also remember the reason why you are creating a site. Put those reasons in what will basically be a business plan for your site. You can incorporate that plan into your main business plan later. Make sure you know what you can do and what is feasible considering your budget. Use that to help you focus when you are having a hard time deciding what to do next. This book will help you with that process.

A lot of people will tell you that you need a site. What they won't tell you is that you need more than that. You need a site that will bring in business, create leads, generate interest in your company and products, have a great sales proposition, collect e-mails, be affiliate-program-ready and optimized for the search engines, be simple to manage, have a good shopping cart system, and incorporate all the things we are going to look at in this book.

If you don't do your homework, you may spend a fortune paying someone to design your site, only to end up sitting there and waiting for the customers to show up and the money to roll in. Well, it won't happen like that. You must make a commitment to your site and actively be on top of things, managing its operations and taking complete control over the efforts to market it.
