5 Summer Business Building Tips

As I write this, it's 5 a.m. on June 9th. It's a Tuesday and the weather lady says it's going to be close to 90 degrees for the high. After leaving the office, tonight, my wife and I are going to the local book store to attend a book signing by Rick and Bubba - the radio show hosts from Birmingham, Alabama. After that and dinner, we'll come home. I'll then log onto the internet to attend Mike Klingler's and Ann Sieg's Renegade Breakthrough Webinar. And then I'll call it a day.

As we head towards the end of June and into July and August, there are going to be a lot of other things that I'll rather be doing than sitting at the computer. And for people with children, the summer is an especially busy time. The tykes aren't in school and they MUST be entertained!

So, how you keep from losing momentum and still build your business during these summer days? Here are my 5 summer business building suggestions:

1. Generate Content
Get up early in the morning and rather than sip coffee and watch the news, sip coffee and write articles! It's much easier to do this when the weather is warm and the birds are chirping. A 500 word article is a cinch to bang out under these conditions. By the end of the summer, you'll have produced over 100 articles. When everyone comes back from vacation and the kids head back to school, your material will be waiting for them!

2. Catch up on reading
There are plenty of good business building books out there and more are being written every day. Take one to the beach or the pool or even on the back patio. Enjoy the weather, a glass of lemonade and reading material that will take your business to the next level!

3. Network
Host and attend a lot of barbeques and informal get-togethers - every weekend if possible. It's fun and you never know when you might meet that next great customer or business partner. Get out there and mingle!

4. Exercise
Get on an exercise routine. Even if it's a walk around the block everyday, do something! This is especially important if you sell a product or service that has to do with health and wellness. It's much easier to exercise in the summer when the weather is nice than in the winter.

5. Attend sports events on the weekends
My life used to revolve around 5K's, 10K's, half-marathons, marathons and triathlons only a few short years ago. (Although, it seems like a lot longer.) I attended the races as a participant, but there were always family members and friends of participants hanging out at the finish line. These are terrific places to be if you are looking for customers who actually have money to spend and are willing to spend it. In fact, bicyclists have a higher per capita income than the average weekend athlete. So, look on the net or in the newspaper and find the next big bike event and plan on attending. These are just a few suggestions. Depending on your business and lifestyle, you may have other ideas. The key is to have fun this summer but keep building!
