5 Ideas For Entrepreneurial Stay At Home Moms
By Kathy Woodard

If you are an entrepreneurial stay at home mom, your biggest problem might be finding new ideas for creating your pathway to financial security. Most stay at home moms are busy enough as it is, so adding an entrepreneurial venture can seem daunting. Here are 5 great ideas for finding your business niche, and keeping you on track once you find it!

Entrepreneurial Idea #1
Don’t have any clue what kind of business will make you money? Then you are asking the wrong question. Ask yourself what you would do in this work if money and time were not an issue. I know, you’ve heard that before, but you know in your heart that there is no way you can make any money with your love of knitting widgets.  Almost ANY topic can be turned into a money making opportunity. Can you teach your skill to others, or write a how-to manual? Can you create a networking site for craft suppliers of kitting yarn? Can you organize fund raisers for others over the internet? Think bigger than you are thinking now. Here’s another one you’ve heard before… Where there’s a will, there’s a way. And yes, you will be more successful doing something you love!

Entrepreneurial Idea #2
Create a business that is totally online. Being a stay at home mom is a tough job, especially if you have little ones around. Getting a sitter or managing all your business in the evening when they are in bed isn’t feasible for many moms. Having your business online means it doesn’t matter if the baby just spit up carrots all over your pj’s, because no one can see that through email. It means if you have to stop doing your books for half an hour to read a story, or bandage a knee, it’s all good. After all, if you miss out on all those moments, the money won’t mean a thing.

Entrepreneurial Idea #3
Stay organized. Sounds like too much to ask of any stay at home mom, doesn’t it? It may seem like a lot of work, but getting organized in the beginning of your entrepreneurial venture will keep you from hiding under the bed with your three years olds teddy bear and the dust bunnies.  Create an organization station  with a master binder for both the family and business needs, and you will find you have much more time for everybody and everything.

Entrepreneurial Idea #4
Take yourself seriously. Just because you don’t dress in a power suit and have coffee brought to you in a high rise office doesn’t mean you aren’t a business dynamo. People treat you how you teach them to treat you, so take yourself seriously as an entrepreneurial mom and others will too.

Entrepreneurial Idea #5
Never stop growing and changing and learning. Business is serious stuff and if you plan to keep up, you have to… well, keep up! Be flexible, if one way doesn’t work, find another, and never give up!

Being an entrepreneurial stay at home mom is tough. I know, been there. But it’s so worth it. Not only do you get to build a financial future for yourself, you get to be there for your kids. Which, in the end, no matter how hard it can be at times, is the best job there is.
